The London High Court issued a showcase notice to the British defence ministry for denying tens of thousands of pounds in compensation to the British Gurkha army men held as prisoners of war by Japan, Radio Nepal reported quoting agencies.

The case was registered on August 12 on behalf of about 400 prisoners of war and their families in Nepal.

The UK government had decided in November 2000 to pay compensation to army men and their widows.
