The U. S. Embassy deplores the September 19 incident in which a Karnali Air helicopter on a humanitarian mission was destroyed by Maoist insurgents and its pilot and passenger abducted, the Embassy said Friday.

“Such senseless destruction helps no one; it only hurts Nepalis in remote, inaccessible areas who depend on such aircraft for medical and other emergencies. ‘We call on the Maoists for the immediate and safe release of the abducts and for an end to further acts of destruction and violence,” the Embassy said. The helicopter had gone to Jubu in Solokhumbu district to pick up a man for the funeral rites of his wife in the capital Thursday.

The sons conducted the rites at the Pashupatinath without his presence.
