Only 17,085 tourists visited Nepal in August compared to 18,383 visitors during the same month last year, the Nepal Tourism Board said. Third country arrivals fell to 11,147 from 14,733 as Indian arrivals jumped from 3,650 to 6,138.
Arrivals from India in August increased 68 percent. Japanese arrivals increased six percent. But arrivals from Germany, United Kingdom and the United States fell. Total tourist arrivals until the end of August fell by 34.39 percent compared to the previous year.
While 200,208 tourists visited Nepal in the first eight months of 2001, only 131,359 came visiting in the first eight months of 2002.
