Six political parties represented in the dissolved parliament Thursday presented a memorandum to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba asking the government to consult the opposition for a consensus in the absence of parliament on national issues before coming to any decision, party sources said.
The parties asked the government to state “clearly and publicly” government’s position on current important and serious national issues and to hold elections as scheduled on November 13.
The political parties were committed to a free, fair and impartial poll in November, they said. The parties asked the government to protect the democratic gains of a popular movement 13 years ago that legalized political parties for the first time after a 30 year ban.
The parties charged the government of failure to maintain law and order ahead of the poll and laxity in negotiating a peace with Maoists. The six parties prepared the common seven point position against the Deuba government after a series of all party consultations.
Deuba and Home Minister Khum Bahadur Khadka have reiterated elections will be held on schedule.
