Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba left London for Bangkok Saturday en route to home after deciding not to participate in the UN Earth Summit on Sustainable Development being held in Johannesburg, Radio Nepal reported.

Earlier Deuba had visited Belgium where he held talks with EU President Romano Prodi on the challenges posed by Nepal from the Maoist terrorists. He also held talks with Belgian Foreign Minister Louis Michel on the issue of bilateral cooperation.

Deuba made a stop over in London for medical check up before he arrived in Bangkok Saturday. His visit to Belgium has been fruitful as he substantiated the need for modern weapons and also convinced the Belgian authorities that the 5,500 automatic rifles which Nepal sought to buy was primarily to fight against the Maoist terrorists who were trying to destabilize a budding democracy.

PM Deuba will be back home Monday.
