A soldier was killed and two others were injured Thursday morning when Maoists ambushed a vehicle in which they were travelling at Badichaur in Surkhet 400 kms southwest of the capital, local security officials said.
Casualties are feared in the rebel side in a clash that followed. The army was working to clear a roadblock on the Karnali road about 24 kilometers away from Birendranagar, the district headquarters.
Security forces shot dead rebel Bishnu Parajuli at Bathasedanda in Sindhupalchowk overnight, local officials said.
Indian authorities Wednesday handed over two rebels, including Laxman Mohoto, to Nepal Wednesday along the border after their arrest in Bihar, police said.
The two are wanted on four murder charges, police said.
