The Nepal-India railway talks held in New Delhi decided to meet for one more round after agreeing on the technical aspects of the railway agreement and putting aside the issue of custom clearance.
“The technical aspects of the railway agreement have been worked out and agreed upon, now we are left with the issue of custom clearance, which will be discussed in the next round of talks to be held in Kathmandu,” said Purushottam Ojha, joint secretary at the ministry of industry, commerce and supplies.
He said most of the issues regarding the railway agreement had been agreed upon by both the sides. Talks were also held on trans-border movement of motor vehicles between the two sides.
The government of Nepal is hard pressed to bring into operation the railway line that joins the Birgunj-based Inland Container Depot (ICD) with Kolkata. The port has not been able to come into operation owing to the absence of a railway agreement causing a great loss to Nepal.
