Following the spate of attacks on the security forces after the lifting of emergency on August 28, the government of Nepal looks poised to re-impose the emergency to step up law and order, a BBC news report said Tuesday.
The Maoists in the last three days have killed over 115 security personnel in the Bhiman area of Sindhuli district and Sandhikharka, the district headquarters of Arghakhaci district. The Maoists too faced heavy reverses in Sandhikharka. Security forces have stated that nearly 150 Maoists were gunned down in Sandikharka.
After returning from an on site visit to Sandikharka, Home Minister Khum Bahadur Khadka said though all the cabinet members were strictly against the idea of imposing emergency until the mid-term elections slated for November 13, the major clashes in Sindhuli and Sandikharka have now given rise to a different situation.
He said all the political parties who have been opposing the emergency must now give a serious thought to it and be accountable to the system.
The cabinet is meeting today and is expected to come up with a decision on whether the emergency should be re-imposed or not.
