The Special court formed to look into the cases of corrupt government officials Wednesday granted permission to the CIAA to extend the detention period of six out of the 16 officials arrested three weeks back in a major crackdown against corruption.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has been granted permission to detain the six officials for 30 more days before completing the investigations and filing a case at the Special court.

The Special Court will decide today whether to release the ten others on condition that they are available in the dates fixed or they should be probed in police custody.

The ten others have appealed to the court for a bail. The CIAA had asked for a period of 20 days to the Special Court in order to carry out the investigation of the 16 out of the 22 officials who were found to have amassed wealth beyond their sources of income in a surprise raid carried out three weeks back.

The time given to CIAA for investigation expires today. The six officials who as per the instruction of the Special court will be investigated in custody are section officers Umesh Regmi and Agni Karki, three junior officers Suresh Regmi, Keshab Raj Gautam and Kedar Dhungana along with Kharidar Bharat Ghimire.
