Annual meeting of IEWON begins in Kathmandu

The 15th seven-day annual meeting of Indian Army Ex-servicemen Welfare Organisation in Nepal (IEWON) began in Kathmandu under the chairmanship of Ashok Kumar, Charge de’ Affaires Sunday, the Indian Embassy said.

The IEWON is responsible for the welfare of all Government of India pensioners in Nepal. The meeting is being attended by Mr. Madan Prasad Aryal, Defence Secretary and senior officials of His Majesty’s Government of Nepal.

Participants from India include senior officers of the Indian Army and Government of India pensioners.

The aim of the meeting is to review welfare projects being executed for Indian Gurkha pensioners and hold consultations on welfare issues with senior officials of His Majesty’s Government of Nepal.

A seven member delegation headed by Lt Gen VK Dua arrived in Kathmandu Sunday to attend this meeting. There are over 150,000 Government of India pensioners in Nepal whose welfare is the responsibility of Indian Ex-servicemen Welfare Organisation in Nepal (IEWON).

Expenditure on welfare projects amounts to Nepali Rs. 16 crores per year.
