15 Maoists killed

The army shot dead 15 Maoists in continuing operations in five districts Thursday, the Defence Ministry said Friday.

Four rebels were shot dead at two separate places in Nuwakot, four others on the border between Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts, three in Kailali, two each in Dhading and  Salyan, an official announcement said.

Ranjit,.Loha, and Adharshila were killed in Kailali; Sandesh and Siman were shot dead in Dhading.

The army recovered arms, equipment to prepare set ambushes, three guns, crude weapons and socket bombs from the scenes of the clashes.

Rebels murdered CPN-UML activist Kul Bahadur Purja at Bhirkate in Myagdhi Thursday and priest Triloichan Sapkota in Pokhara, local officials said.

The army defused a bomb at the home of RPP spokesman Kamal Thapa at his Hetauda home Wednesday, officials said.
