Both the central working committee and the parliamentary party of the ruling Nepali Congress overwhelmingly supported the social and economic reform package including land reform announced recently by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and asked the Prime Minister to go ahead with the announced programme.

The central working committee and parliamentary party met Friday to discuss the recently announced reform package of the Prime Minister and political developments after the announcement.

Benup Raj Prasai, secretary of Nepali Congress Parliamentary party, said that lawmakers overwhelmingly supported the Prime Minister’s move. However, the party asked the Prime Minister to give due attention to the interest and welfare of lower and middle class farmers while formulating policies on land reforms and land ceiling, said Prasai.

The meeting decided that the land reform and other social reforms announced by the Prime Minister are the policies of the Nepali Congress along with the continuity of 14-point agenda proposed by former Prime Minister and party president Girija Prasad Koirala, said lawmaker Prasai.

Another lawmaker who was present in the meeting said that some members opposed the decision of the Prime Minister concerning land reforms and land ceiling.

Similarly, the central working committee of the Nepali Congress met and discussed the Prime Minister’s social and economic reform programme and fully supported the Prime Minister.
