The ruling Nepali Congress Party Thursday fixed the land ceiling for a family in the terai at 11 bighas,10 bighas farmland and one bigha for housing.
Land ceiling in the hills has been fixed at 70 ropanis farmland and five ropanis for housing. Ceiling for Kathmandu Valley has been fixed at 25 ropanis of agricultural land and five ropanis for housing. One bigha is equivalent to 13 ropanis.
An emergency meeting of the party’s central committee set the ceiling. A seven-member committee headed by former deputy prime minister Ram Chandra Paudel recommended the ceiling.
The government is expected to approve the party recommendation and present it as a bill in parliament for approval.
