Speaker Taranath Ranabhatt adjourned the session of the House of Representatives until Wednesday after two opposition parties again disrupted house proceedings for the sixth time Monday protesting a government plan to reduce land holdings.
Members of the Rashtriya Prajatantra party and the Nepal Sadbavana party rushed to the Speaker’s chair and shouted slogans against the government plan forcing the presiding officer to adjourn the session.
Parliament met Monday after a five-day recess. Opposition members again demanded a ceiling on property and not land.Government by fiat ordered a freeze on sale and transfer of land nation-wide ahead of the reduction of land ceiling.
Communists in parliament have supported Deuba’s initiative.
