Govt-Maoist peace talks underway in Godavari

The peace talks between the government and Maoist representatives began Thursday morning in Godavari Village Resort, on the outskirts of Kathmandu. The first round of talks were held till 1:00 PM.

Talks are being held amidst tight security. Police and army personnel have been providing security to the representatives of both sides. Chiranjibi Wagle is the convener of the government team, which also includes Ram Sharan Mahat, Mahesh Acharya and Narhari Acharya.

The Maoist negotiators are Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Agni Prasad Sapkota and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi.

Press and other people have been prevented to enter the hotel where talks are being held. A source at the hotel said that Maoist representatives arrived in the hotel at about 9 am.

The peace talks aims at ending the six-year old armed insurgency, which has already killed more than 1800 people.
