The main opposition CPN-UML Friday took out a rally in Kathmandu  in support of social and economic reform package including land reforms announced in parliament by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. The rally began from Ratna Park and went round the city chanting slogans in support of land reform.

They demanded implementation of the land reform programme announced by the Prime Minister. Participants in the rally also chanted slogans against RPP and Nepal Sadbhavana Party, which opposed the land reform and ceiling on land. They described those who oppose the land reform as feudal elements. The rally turned into a mass meeting in Ratna Park in which CPN-UML central leader Keshav Badal and Krishna Gopal Shrestha heavily criticized those who opposed the land reform. CPN-UML general secretary and opposition leader in parliament Madhav Kumar Nepal and other senior leaders of the party participated in the rally.

The rally was organised as a move to counter RPP and Nepal Sadbhavana Party that have protested against the land reform programme announced by the Prime Minister. Meanwhile CPN-ML, another leftist party, also supported the announcement of Prime Minister Deuba and asked the government to honestly implement the land reform and other social and economic reforms. The standing committee of the CPN-ML that met Friday took this decision and decided to play active role to support the government for implementing the land reform programme.
