With the pressure on the Maoist rebels mounting from all quarters to withdraw the proposed indefinite strike of academic institutions beginning December 9, the student wing of the party said Sunday that it would call off the strike if the government stopped dubbing the Maoists as ‘terrorists’.
President of the All Nepal National Independent Student Union (ANNISU), Devendra Parajuli said in a press statement Saturday that the student body would withdraw the proposed strike of educational institutions if the government stopped calling the Maoists terrorists and also created congenial environment for talks.
Meanwhile Home Minister Dharma Bahadur Thapa said Saturday at the face-to-face programme organized by the Reporters’ Club that the present government had not dubbed the Maoists as terrorists and was waiting for its official letter to open the peace talks.
