Shyam Bhakta Thapa appointed Acting IGP

The government Monday appointed the senior most Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Shyam Bhakta Thapa as Acting Inspector General of Police after Pradeep Shumsher Rana, the serving IGP decided to go on leave before his term expires in a month.

Thapa who has been appointed Acting IGP will probably be confirmed within a month. He joined the police force in 1973 as police inspector. Thapa has taken nine different security and management related training in countries abroad.

The other AIGPs staking their claims for the post of IGP were Ananta Ram Bhattarai and Govinda Prasad Thapa. AIGP Tirtha Pradhan was not in the race as he too is retiring shortly.
