The third general convention of the Rastriya Prajatantra party (RPP) that concluded in Pokhara Saturday has elected Pashupati Shumshere Rana as President of the party, Radio Nepal reported.

Rana polled 735 votes out of 1,243 votes cast. Rana’s closest contender for the coveted post Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani polled 321 votes while Rabindra Nath Sharma had to settle with 135 votes.
Rana was the general secretary of the party while Lohani was the Vice President of the party. The party, which is the third largest in the dissolved House of Representatives is led by leaders with pro-Royalist image.
Surya Bahadur Thapa and Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand are the top-notch leaders of the party whom have constantly voiced for the protection of national interests. It has over the years tried to portray a nationalist image.
Kamal Thapa, Jayanta Chand, Buddhiman Tamang, Surya Bahadur K.C., Jog Mehar Shrestha, Padma Sundar Lawati, Bikram Pandey Dhurba Bahadur Pradhan, Parsu Ram Khapung, Deepak Bohora, Balaram Gharti Magar, Jagat Gauchan, Khem Raj Pandit, Rajiv Parajuli, Govinda Raj Khaniya, Prem Bahadur Bhandar, Bhuwan Pathak and Narendra Kumar Chaudhary have been elected to the party’s central working committee by the third general convention.
There were a total of 64 candidates contesting for the post of central member. Among them 18 male candidates and four female candidates were elected. Four women elected to the committee are Pratibha Rana, Renu Kumari Yadav, Durga Shrestha and Roshana Karki.
