Dwarika Debi Thakurani, Nepal’s first woman minister, died of lung cancer at Seti Anchal Hospital in Dhangadi Tuesday, an announcement said. She was 89.
She was admitted to the hospital Sunday. She was assistant minister of health in the first elected government of B.P, Koirala in 1959.
She was elected to parliament from a constituency in Dandeldhura in Nepal’s first general elections.
