Explosives, arms recovered in Gorkha

KATHMANDU: Security personnel recovered explosives and arms from two villages in Gorkha Saturday. Explosives confiscated include 29 socket bombs,15 detonators, 65 hand grenades, pistols, battery boxes and other appliances.

Maoists hacked to death an activist of the ruling Nepali Congress party in Syangjha district Friday. Bishnu Bahadur Chand hailed from Sekham village. Armed rebels also set ablaze an abandoned police post at Bafeli village in Sindhupalchowk Thursday, police said.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) last week delivered medicines and a kit for treating wounded in the countergency to the Bheri Zonal Hospital in Nepalgunj last week. Meanwhile, insurgents are surrendering to local authorities in increasing numbers as the security
forces increase searches of homes and continue search and combing missions to flush the rebels out of their jungle hideouts and training centres.

Maoists Friday night decamped with office equipment and other goods worth nearly Rs.1 million from the U.S. NGO ADRA-Nepal in Dhaibung village in neighbouring Rasuwa district, police said.
