Supreme Court overturns controversial ruling

A division bench of  the Supreme Court Monday overturned a controversial ruling to give a businessman facilities to import sugar against percent customs duty like the National Trading Limited (NTL).

The division bench of the apex court of Chief Justice Keshav Prasad Upadhaya and Laxman Prasad Aryal ruled customs duty reduction order has first to be gazetted. A one-man bench of justice Rajendraraj Nakhwa earlier issued an interim order to the government to award such a concession to the businessman also.

The businessman presented the court a copy of a government order to award NTL import concessions while seeking similar privilege. The judge resigned after the judgement.
