The Supreme Court Tuesday lifted last week’s interim order directing the government not to make appointments to local bodies after the dissolution of all village and district committees and municipalities on the expiry of their elected five-year term on July 16.
A three-man bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Keshab Prasad Upadhaya issued the order. Two writs had been filed at the Supreme Court challenging the legality of the government dissolution.
The Court will give its detailed verdict later. The Court move removes a hurdle paving the way for the government to make arrangements for the day-to-day administration of the local bodies. Government had earlier appointed officials to administer them.
The UML sought an extension until local elections while the government pressed for all party committees. There was no consensus on the problem.
