Kathmandu, June 24: The stock market last week recovered slightly after it was hit hard by the June 1 carnage at the Narayanhiti Royal Palace. Trading opened at 332.81 points and closed at 336.87 points Thursday to gain 4.06 points at the end of the week; there was no trading Friday as it was declared a national holiday to mark the 10th Census Day.
Altogether 187,816 shares worth Rs.24 million changed hands in 528 transactions; the previous week only 13,802 shares worth Rs.9 million were traded. Altogether 50.21 percent of shares traded were of commercial banks whose index shot up to 366.40 from 359.62.
