Maoists kill 5 cops in Tanahu

Kathmandu, June 30: Five policemen were killed and several others were injured when guerillas of underground Communist Party Nepal (Maoist) attacked a police post in Kihu of Tanahu district, about 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu, Friday night, police sources said.

About 200 armed insurgents suddenly attacked the police post manned by 25 policemen at night.

Police said there was an exchange of fire between the insurgents and police for more than two hours. Police surrendered as they ran short of ammunition after two hours, the police source said.

Insurgents have also taken away all arms and ammunition from the police post. The injured have already been flown to Kathmandu where they are undergoing treatment.
