Bodies of four Maoist insurgents have been recovered from the site of clashes at Durgauli in far-western district of Kailali Monday, according to the Far Western divisional headquarters of the Royal Nepalese Army.

A police constable was killed and four security personnel were injured during the clashes. Two women villagers are also said to have been injured during the gun battle, latest reports said.

The casualty on the part of the rebels could be much higher, according to security sources.

Nepal Samacharpatra daily reported that the clashes took place for one and half hours after hundreds of insurgents opened attack at the security patrol. The insurgents later fled after reinforcement was sent and air offensive was launched.

Similarly, the security personnel repulsed an attack at their base at Sukkhad in the district. The insurgents had attacked the base using long-range weapons but nobody was injured within the base. There may have been casualties on the part of the rebels during the counter-offensive, security sources said.

In yet another incident, dozens of Maoist insurgents are suspected to have died during clashes between security personnel and rebels at Ganeshpur area along the Nepalgunj-Guleriya section of the Mahendra highway in the mid-western region Monday. Two policemen also died during the clashes, reports said.

The clashes took place when the security personnel reached the area to clear road obstructions set up by the insurgents. Kantipur daily reported that SSB, Indian para-military force that is stationed across the border, has also tightened their security following the clashes and international border was sealed from Monday evening.

Details are still awaited.

Three more rebels were killed during the search operation launched by security forces in Solukhumbu, Tehrathum and Gulmi districts, according to the Royal Nepalese Army.
