A one-man bench of Supreme Court Justice Krishna Jung Rayamajhi Friday quashed a writ petition of over 500 petitioners seeking to debar the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) from collecting entry fees from tourists visiting the Basantapur Square.
The fee recommended by the Municipal Council and decided by a meeting of the KMC is not illegal, Justice Rayamajhi said. The KMC charges visitors from the SAARC region Rs.25 and tourists from other countries Rs.200. The KMC daily collects Rs.40,000 on an average.
Tour operators have opposed the collection also in force in Bhaktapur. nepalnews.com br July 13
