Release of Chudal, Subedi urged

Rights groups and family members of Jayendra Chudal, general manager of the Chaudhary Group at Nawalparasi, and Rameswor Subedi, chief of the Sworgadwai Campus, Pyuthan have urged Maoist insurgents to release them on humanitarian grounds.

The rebels had abducted Chudal, 43, from southern district of Nawalparasi on February 17. His whereabouts remain unknown. The Chaudhary Group—a leading industrial and business house—has also appealed for the immediate release of its staff. The group runs ‘Chaudhary Udhyog Gaon’ in Nawalparasi where most of its manufacturing units are located.

Talking to Nepalnews Wednesday, father of Jayendra, Medini Prasad Chudal, appealed the insurgents to allow him to contact his family members and release him unharmed. “His mother and his wife are in a very bad condition and his small children are also worried,” said senior Chudal. He also appealed human rights activists to help in the safe release of his eldest son.

In a separate incident, Maoist insurgents have abducted chief of the Sworgadwari Campus in mid-western district of Pyuthan Sunday. The reason behind his abduction and his whereabouts remain unknown.

The health condition of 84-year-old father of Rameswor, Mukunda Raj, has deteriorated following the abduction of his some. Mrs. Basanta Sharma has also appealed the insurgents to release her husband unharmed.
