The House of Representatives will approve the landmark bill reducing ceilings on land holdings Friday. The chief whip of the ruling Nepali Congress Party Thursday issued an order asking all members to be present and vote in favour of the bill when it is put to vote in parliament.

The bill should get parliamentary approval because the Nepali Congress has a parliamentary majority. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba says his move to reduce land holdings in a revolutionary step that will increase productivity and provide land and shelter to millions of land less people.

The entire opposition in parliament has opposed the bill for different reasons. The main opposition UML says the ceiling should be further reduced. The RPP and the Nepal Sadbavana party argue there should be a ceiling on property instead.

Both the parties boycotted parliament Thursday to protest the bill.
