Kathmandu, June 27: Mayor Keshab Staphit Tuesday launched a Rs.1.4 million rupee metric addressing system for the capital funded by the European Commission to easily locate houses in the expanding and often unregulated spread of the capital city.
Staphit pinned the number 1464 Rs 100 blue plate at the Durbar Marg police station to launch the drive in the first of six sectors covering the capital; the first phase of the new drive encompasses 3,000 buildings in five wards in the central sector from Tundikhel to Dhobikhola. The entire project will take one year to complete.
The fresh numbering drive was launched after a three-month trial period at wards 2, 5 and 20 of the city. Kathmandu’s roads will be classified into path, sadak, marg and galli and the house number will be designated acording to the distance from the road.
