Kathmandu, June 28:  Surendra Chaudhary, a resident of Haripur in Siraha, was arrested at a border point in Bardia while attempting to illegally smuggle eight girls to India Wednesday. The women cell of the police has sent Chaudhary and the girls to Kathmandu for further questioning. All the girls are from Bardia.

Thousands of girls are smuggled to India to work as sex workers in major Indian cities despite national and international efforts to stop the trade. Some criminals operate freely after developing ties with influential centres.
