Malaysia qualified for the semi-finals from Group A of the third U-19 Youth Asia Cup-2001 cricket tournament by scoring a convincing seven wicket knockout victory over championship favorites U.A.E Saturday.
Malaysia bundled out U.A.E. for only 79 runs in 28.2 overs after U.A.E. elected to bat first after winning the toss.
Malaysia scored 80 runs in 29.5 overs to win the match. Malaysian team captain Arul Vivasvan captured three wickets while conceding only 12 runs in eight overs.
He was declared man of the match. Mohd Razan Zabri also took three wickets for 30 runs in five overs. Noor Ikhwan Roslee was top scorer hitting 27 runs in 27 balls off 36 deliveries; he remained not out.
“It was a great victory. The boys bowled and batted well,” said team manager C.Sivanandan.
Malaysia beat Qatar Friday after losing to Kuwait in the first match of the tournament.
Singapore entered the semi-finals from another Group B match after defeating Oman.
