King, Queen to visit India

King Gyanendra and Queen Komal will pay a state visit to India from June 23 to 28, the Royal Palace said Friday. The royal couple are visiting India on the invitation of President K.R. Narayanan.

The visit was announced on the eve of the first anniversary of the assassination of King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya. Ten members of the of the royal family and relatives were killed and four others were injured in the June 1 carnage started by Crown Prince Diprendra who later turned a gun on himself.

King Gyanendra had said he would not travel abroad during a one-year mourning period for the late king and queen.
