Government is moving to sell nearly 1000 of the 1059 ropanis of public and government land in Kathmandu at double the market price to trespassers to collect Rs.200 million. Government stopped the sale or transfer of such land by an estimated 5000 families seven years ago.
“The problem of the people will be solved while the government will collect Rs.200 million in revenue,” State Minister for Land Reforms and Management Ramjanam Chandhary told Spacetime Dainik Thursday.
Government is soon promulgating an ordinance to enable it to sell government or public land to individuals by lifting restrictions on such sale.
The ordinance authorizing the government to sell such land was being presented to the dissolved parliament by a cash strapped government fighting a communist insurgency.
