Kathmandu, June 28: Twenty eight persons were buried alive by a landslide and five persons swept away by a turbulent river in neighbouring Dhading district 40 kms west of the capital Tuesday night, officials said Thursday.

All 28 bodies buried under the landslide at Satyadevi village have been recovered 20 hours after the accident, local officials said. The villagers could not cross the swollen river and were taking shelter at a house after planting paddy when they were smothered by the worst mudslide this monsoon season.

Five persons were swept by the river nearby when they were trying to cross it, officials said. A landslide killed eleven persons in Dolakha district east of the capital Friday.

Deputy Prime Minister Ram Chandra Paudel Thursday activated the central disaster relief committee and put it on alert to tackle natural disasters during the monsoon season, officials said.
