Four demonstrators were injured in police firing and a curfew was slapped on Tulsipur 440 kms west of the capital Monday on the second day of continuing protests following the deaths of two students who were overrun by a bus near the town, a Home Ministry source said.

The market was completely closed Monday two days after the accident as protesters demanded compensation and action against the driver. Irate protesters smashed nearly 100 vehicles and torched a bus ticketing booth in the town Sunday.

Agitated people blocked the road and did not allow vehicle movement. The firing took place when police intervened to clear the roads and bring the situation under control, police said. Police was forced to open fire as the crowd started attacking the security personnel and continued their violent activities, said an Assistant Inspector of police in the district police office in Dang.

According to police, some policemen have also been injured. A local person contacted on phone said that situation is still tense and curfew has been clamped in certain parts of Tulsipur.

Police said the injured people are undergoing treatment in Dang and Nepalgunj. The chief district officer of Dang could not be contacted. Unofficial reports said at least a  dozen persons were injured in clashes Monday.
