The army shot dead five more Maoists in continuing operations in three districts, the Defence Ministry said Thursday. Two rebels were shot dead in Darchula, one in Bajura Tuesday and two in Jumla Wednesday, the Ministry said.

The army found a corpse of a suspect in Bacherni in Doti during a search Wednesday, officials said. Locals in Lamjung voluntarily surrendered nine guns to security forces Tuesday.

The army has rescued 1000 people from the recent floods and landslides and administered first aid while distributing relief material to them.

The rebels completely destroyed a suspension bridge linking the mountains districts of Humla and Mugu recently inconveniencing the people. This was the first rebel attack on infrastructure in several weeks.

Home Ministry Khum Bahadur Khadka again reiterated a recent call by Maoist strongman Pracahanda to participate in elections following the formation of an interim government was just a deceptive ploy and a play with words.

He told a public meeting Thursday nobody was stopping Maoists from contesting the November 13 snap poll. He again said there will be no talks with the rebels until they surrender their weapons.

“Although we have succeeded in curbing their activities in other districts, they still control Rolpa, Rukum, Jajarkot and Kalikot,” Khadka told another public meeting Wednesday.
