Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba Friday hinted that he would open a new party if the Nepali Congress leadership did not make efforts to eschew the intra-party differences and thereby work towards uniting the party.
“If the party President does not withdraw the action taken against me and other Ministers and does not initiate efforts for unity, I cannot contest the elections independently without being allied to a party,” Deuba told Congress activists assembled at his official residence at Baluwatar.
Prime Minister Deuba said he did not wish to split the party. The responsibility of uniting the party has fallen on the shoulders of the party President. The party President should be aware of the attempts being made to trap him and tarnish his glorious past.
The gathering comprising of General Convention Representatives, party’s Mahasamiti members, MPs and others disclosed that they were contemplating on registering a no-trust motion against the party President if he did not withdraw the action taken against Prime Minister Deuba.
Meanwhile a gathering of Congress workers from various levels of the party organization participating at a discussion programme held in the capital called on the party president to take back the decision to expel Prime Minister Deuba from the party’s membership and direct efforts to unite the party.
Nepali Congress central member and Minister for Water Resources Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar chaired the function.
Party President Girija Prasad Koirala has called a gathering of party workers, representatives from the district governing bodies of the party in the capital today. According to party sources he is going to make an important announcement concerning the present imbroglio in the party.
