A controversial Supreme Court justice was superannuated Tuesday. The apex retired Justice Rajendraraj Nahkwa after reaching the retirement age of 65, a Supreme Court announcement said.

First reports said the judge resigned after delivering a controversial judgement. A two man bench this week overturned his earlier verdict ordering the government to give a businessman confessional customs duty privilege like the National Trading Limited (NTL) to import sugar.

The judge gave the verdict on the basis of a photocopy of a government notice presented to the court. The two man bench overturned the order because the notification had not been gazetted.

There is a sugar shortage in the market.
