Kathmandu, June 8: Two members of a powerful commission to investigate facts behind the carnage at the Narayanhiti Royal Palace killing King Birendra, Queen Aishwarya, Crown Prince Dipendra and seven other members of the royal family and immediate relatives last Friday met here today. “They began their meeting at eight o’clock. They are meeting right now. But I cannot confirm if it is formal,” said a person at the Parliament office over telephone.
Chief Justice Keshab Prasad Upadhaya heads the commission and Speaker of the House of Representatives Taranath Ranabhatt is the other member of the commission; leader of the main opposition in parliament Madav Nepal walked out of the commission citing a flimsy technicality while extending UML support to the investigation.
The Commission has to report to King Gyanendra within three days. The King has promised to make public the report. At least two royal relatives have publicly accused Crown Prince Dipendra for the mass killings. Journalists were not allowed near the venue of the meet at Parliament Secretariat Friday.
