Kathmandu, June 22: Business community and travel entrepreneurs of Nepal have welcomed the Public Security Regulation recently announced by the government. Industrial Relations Council, an umbrella body of 16 organizations including Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI), held a meeting Friday and issued a joint statement appreciating the government decision of bringing about the new Public Security Regulation to maintain law and order and security in the country.
The statement says that business and industry especially tourism sector has suffered much because of frequent strike and forcible closure in the last few years. Business community had long been demanding necessity laws to restrict unnecessary strike and forcible collection of donation, it says. After the announcement of the new regulation, the law and order has been improved and business community has felt a sense of security, it says.
The business community has also asked the government to take even more steps to further improve the security system in the country. The welcome statement of the business community came at a time when all opposition parties and human rights organizations have opposed the new Public Security Regulation and have demanded its immediate withdrawal.
Opposition parties have claimed that the new Public Security Regulation bans all kinds of strike and demonstration against the government. The government has, however, said that the new move does not at all restrict any kind of peaceful protest programs.
