Kathmandu, June 27: The British will follow the Danes in manufacturing a new electric vehicle project to reduce the growing pollution in the city caused by older vehicles run by diesel and petrol to minimize health hazards, a British embassy press release said.

The first four wheel prototype electric vehicle will be on the streets of Kathmandu by October. The Danes had previously helped in developing the three-wheeler SAFA tempos run on batteries; some were run on gas also.

The vehicle project will be designed and implemented by the Himalayan Light Foundation (HLF), a Nepali non-profit NGO. “The project aims to build on the success of the Kathmandu’s three-wheeler electric vehicles and to move the development of this form of transport to the next level, “an announcement said.
