The army and police Wednesday held preliminary security discussions to conduct free and fair snap elections of November 13 with more such discussions to follow, the Election Commission said Wednesday.

Chief of the Army Staff Gen. Prajwalla SJB Rana, Armed Police IGP Krishna Mohan Shrestha and Civilian Police IGP Pradip SJB Rana held discussions with Chief Election Commissioner Achyut Narayan Rajbhandary and other Commissioners at the Commission.

The meeting comes as the government vowed to hold elections on schedule and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s rival Nepali Congress (Koirala) expressing doubts if elections will ever be held with the on-going communist insurgency.

The meetings comes two days after the government asked officials to oversee the administration of districts, municipalities and villages after their elected five-year tenure ended.

The Koirala Congress claims the national vote will not be fair and free as well. But most main opposition parties, including the CPN-UML and RPP, said they are ready to contest the vote. nepalnews.com br July 17
