Maoist insurgents, on Sunday, released over 300 teachers who they had abducted from various schools in eastern Sankhuwasabha district, reports said Monday.

The rebels had abducted the teachers from different schools in 15 VDCs of constituency number 2 of the district last Wednesday as part of their ‘people’s army mobilization campaign’, according to reports.

Nepal Samacharpatra daily, quoting sources, said that the Maoists took the abducted teachers to a Maoist programme at an unidentified location of the district.

Over the last ten months, the Maoist rebels have abducted and then released over 12,000 teachers and students across the country, according to rights groups.
