Following the ceasefire break announcement Wednesday, Amnesty International, a London-based human rights watchdog, has urged the government and the Maoists to form an independent human rights monitoring mechanism.

In a statement, the INGO said such a monitoring mechanism is crucial to stop the series of murders.

Amnesty has been pressing both the warring sides to sign human rights agreement. The agreement will allow National Human Rights Commission to open offices in five development regions under the United Nations assistance to monitor the peace process.
