Maoists shot Army Colonels Kiran Basnet at Baneshwor and  Rabindra KC at Samakhushi, Thursday morning, army sources confirmed at 10:30 a.m.

“KC and Kiran Basnet have been rushed to the army hospital,” the source said. Initial reports said Colonel Basnet was shot dead. “Basnet is not dead but is undergoing treatment at the hospital. Basnet and KC’s health condition are not known yet,” the source said.

Earlier, eyewitnesses said Basnet sustained many bullets in head and other body parts.

Colonel KC is the TV presenter in the army’s programme. He was shot while getting into his car by four people in a nearby tea shop, eyewitness said. He was hit, but gave chase and fired back.

According to various radio reports after 10 AM, Colonel Basnet succumbed to injuries at the army hospital.

The Maoist attacks comes a day after Prachanda pulled his party of the peace-process and unilaterally ended the cease-fire.
