The government has tightened security in the capital ahead of mass meeting of seven opposition political parties slated for Thursday.
Issuing notices, the home ministry informed that it is tightening security and increased security check ups in Kathmandu valley to thwart any untoward incidents.
Talking to Nepalnews, Yogesh Bhattarai, secretary of the UML Valley Coordination Committee, one of the biggest mass mobilizers, said the attempt of the government is the result of its autocratic character.
He said that people will retaliate if the government imposes restriction in their peaceful protest.
According to Bhattarai, Thursday’s mass meeting will announce one month long protest program to disrupt the municipal polls.
The seven opposition political parties are holding internal meetings to chalk out future programs to foil the municipal polls, scheduled for February 8, which will be announced on Thursday’s mass meeting.
Despite the call from seven opposition parties, the government announced municipal polls of February next year.
Top leaders of the opposition political parties will address the mass meeting. Tens of thousands people had participated in the mass meeting organized by CPN-UML in the capital on December 2 despite the obstacles created by the government to thwart the mass meeting.
The seven opposition political parties are organizing joint protest program for total democracy in the country.
The parties are mulling to mobilize nearly 500,000 people on the first week of February to thwart the municipal polls.
According to organizers, the UML is to begin its rally from Gausala, the NC from Maitighar and the rest of the parties from Tinkune before converging at Baneshwore.
