KATHMANDU:  The United Kingdom on Tuesday urged the Nepali political parties to join the Deuba government and form a united front against the prevailing ‘unacceptable’ Maoist violence in the country.

In a personal message to the prime minister, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Jack Straw, welcomed Deuba’s determination to re-initiate peace process with the rebels and said, “The UK and the international community are ready to support the effort for a lasting peaceful resolution to the conflict.”

Straw also said that the UK remained committed to a substantial program of development assistance and to the reduction of poverty in Nepal.
