KATHMANDU: At least two Maoists were killed in an encounter with the security forces in the western district of Gorkha on Monday.
The Maoists – area in-charge Prakash Pokhrel and Shiv Karakheti, a member of the ‘Village People’s Government’ – were shot dead after they hurled socket bombs at a security patrol at Dhuwakot area, a statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relations of the Royal Nepalese Army on Tuesday said.
The incident comes despite the extension of the three-month long unilateral ceasefire by the Maoists.
Meanwhile, 12 Maoists have surrendered before the district administration of Siraha.
Area commander Arun Kumar Yadav, area committee members-duo Tarini Yadav and Ram Balak Pal and ‘zonal logistic commander’ Mahadev Yadav were among those who surrendered before the district administration on Monday, according to the DPR.
