Two killed, Over 50 injured in Dhanusha road mishap (news update)

Latest reports say at least two people have been killed and over 50 others were injured when a truck — carrying supporters of the CPN (Maoist) — met with an accident at the Janakpur-Dhanusha road section in Mithileshwor VDC ward no. 1 in the southern district of Dhanusha Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the truck was heading for Janakpur from the neighbouring district of Siraha. The truck– that got overturned on the road—was moving in a high speed.

Earlier, preliminary reports said as many as six people may have been killed during the mishap.

Eight of the seriously injured persons have been taken to B. P. Koirala Institute of Medical Sciences in Dharan for treatment while the rest are undergoing treatment at the local hospital.

The supporters of the CPN (Maoist) were on their way to take part in a mass meeting organized by their party at Janakpur. Over 100,000 people are said to have taken part in the mass meeting organized by the senior Maoist leaders including party spokesman and coordinator of the Maoist negotiation team, Krishna Bahadur Mahara.
